While researching some air cleaning products online, I found this one which initially looked nothing like an air purifier. I mean it’s design was quite unique for a purifier. Reading further through its many features and capabilities, I quickly made up my mind that this was definitely special product and thus I had to include it in my review list.
Coway AP-1512HH Review
Effective 4-Stage Filtration
The Coway AP-1512HH model purifies the air in 4 different stages; each of which is meant to remove impurities of a certain type. In the first stage of filtration, the contaminated air passes through a washable Pre-Filter which blocks large size particles like pet fur, hair, dust. This pre-filter complements the HEPA filter and indirectly improves the life of the latter filters.
After all the bigger airborne particles are captured, impure air now passes through the Carbon Filter. This filter traps the bad odors, harmful gases, vapors and other small sized particles. The carbon filter is made of activated charcoal which has numerous microscopic pores in it. A majority of the bad odors get filtered in this stage.
Now comes the True HEPA filter which is very powerful and can effectively filter 99.97% of all airborne pollutants. This includes mold spores, pet dander, pollen grains, smoke molecules and common household dust. The HEPA filter is capable of capturing particles of up to the size 0.03 microns.
In the fourth stage of air purification, the Coway AP-1512HH uses its trademark technology, ‘Vital Ionizer‘. This is nothing but an ionizer minus the ozone and other harmful by-products.
One thing with this purifier is that it doesn’t really matter where you position it within the room. I’m saying so because it pulls in air from the front, sides and from the bottom while simultaneously delivering clean air from the top.
The AP-1512HH is a beautifully designed air cleaning product. This compact device can easily blend with the other items in your living or bedroom.
Smart Mode Puts you on Top
The product from Coway has a smart sensor which automatically detect and display the quality of air inside the room. Moreover, the fan adjusts itself automatically to increase or decrease the airflow based on the presence of pollutants.
It also has a filter replacement indicator which intimates you when it’s time for the filters to be replaced. Generally speaking, the HEPA filter is expected to be replaced on a yearly basis. But, what I’ve found is that the life of HEPA filter can be prolonged if you clean the pre-filter and vacuum the Carbon filter once every three months or so.
Also, there is an Eco setting and Auto setting, each of which adjusts the airflow based on the level of airborne contaminants.
CADR and Coverage Area
The AP-1512HH model from Coway has some impressive CADR numbers to its name. It has a Clean Air Delivery Rating of 246 for dust, 240 for pollen and 233 for the smoke. These numbers are better than other competing products like the Winix 5300.
Another thing is that this air purifying product can easily cover a medium size living area of around 360 sq. ft. So, it is powerful enough to filter the polluted air within a smaller living spaces.
Quiet and Noiseless Operation
This air purifier has 3 airflow speed levels with the low being the whisper quiet mode. It produces a remarkably low (read negligible) sound of just around 27 decibels when the fan speed is set at low. The noise tends to rise as the airflow speed increases and at its highest, it produces around 54 decibels of noise.
You can sleep at peace by setting the airflow at a low level and the highest airflow speed is nothing but asking for disturbance.
