Go Eco No Ego Celebrate the World Environment Day in Cyprus

As citizens across the globe gear up to celebrate World Environment Day with activities, about 3000 people gathered in Famagusta, in Cyprus on April 28th to celebrate and raise awareness on Food Waste. The event organized by the Go Eco No Ego was the first ever organized in support of the Think Eat Save Campaign. The public was educated on different ways to fight Food Waste, entertained and fed.

"We have been working and educating members and individuals to reduce their Foodprint", said Arash Akhshik. " It was done at the event , during the speeches and by serving just enough food to the participants explaining to them the reason, and of course it was a good practice as there was zero leftover at the end", he added.
Go Eco No Ego has lined up events and activities in support of the World Environment day as well the UN's Food Waste campaign launched in February.

The theme for this year’s World Environment Day celebrations is Think.Eat.Save. Think.Eat.Save is an anti-food waste and food loss campaign that encourages you to reduce your foodprint. According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), every year 1.3 billion tonnes of food is wasted. This is equivalent to the same amount produced in the whole of sub-Saharan Africa. At the same time, 1 in every 7 people in the world go to bed hungry and more than 20,000 children under the age of 5 die daily from hunger.

Given this enormous imbalance in lifestyles and the resultant devastating effects on the environment, this year’s theme – Think.Eat.Save – encourages you to become more aware of the environmental impact of the food choices you make and empowers you to make informed decisions.

Let's all celebrate the World Environment Day 2013!
